Biography

Artist and naturalist Lydia Golas hand-crafts each piece mostly from reclaimed, late 18th to 19th century American barn wood. The result is a unique work of art that spans past and present, human and nature.

All are built to house nesting wild birds, with attention given to factors such as hole size specification, easy clean out, ventilation, and drainage.

In 2019 she started “branching out” and building and turning new and different (and exceptional!) creations from the same fabulous materials.

You may be wondering why birdhouses at a fiber show? Well, some fiber is made of trees, but honestly, these are the best way to give homage to our historic farms. Give this wood a new life, let it come full circle. Farming isn’t just about plants and animals, its about honoring the land and reusing and recycling all we can to keep it for future generations.
